Italian Meat Sauce

1 c. chopped onion
1 lb. ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (30 oz.) tomatoes, cut up
1 can (6 oz.) tomato paste
¼ cup snipped parsley
1 T. brown sugar
½ tsp. Monosodium Glutamate
1 ½ tsp. dried oregano, crushed
¼ tsp. dried thyme, crushed
1 bay leaf

In a Dutch oven, combine onion, meat and garlic; cook until meat is browned and onion is tender. Skim off excess fat; add remaining ingredients and 1 cup water. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaf and serve over hot spaghetti.
