Maraschino Cherry Cake

4 cups cake flour

4 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

¾ cup unsalted butter

2 ¼ cups sugar

1 ½ cups milk

¼ cup maraschino cherry juice

¼ cup maraschino cherries, quartered

1 teaspoon vanilla

4 egg whites

Sift dry ingredients.  Cream butter, then add sugar and ½ cup milk.  Add egg whites, one at a time and cream well.  Add ½ cup cake flour and incorporate.  Add remaining flour alternately with remaining 1 cup of milk.  Scrape sides of the bowl, add vanilla, cherry juice and cut up cherries.  Bake at 350°.
